Born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamin in 1995 in Los Angeles, Doja Cat grew up in a creatively rich environment, with a mother who was a painter and a father who pursued acting and performing arts in South Africa. As a teenager, she began her musical journey by releasing tracks on SoundCloud, where her unique blend of playful humour, smooth R&B melodies, and experimental beats began to draw attention. Her early single, “So High,” released in 2014, went viral and caught the eye of RCA Records, leading to the release of her debut EP, “Purrr!”.
