Was a bit dubious buying F1 tickets…
Bought a 4 day grandstand seat to the australian grand prix and was a bit offput by the fact that I wouldn't recieve my tickets til the week of, but lo and behold, 3 days before the event the tickets were transferred to me without issue. Happy with the process overall.

Akon (born Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam) is a Senegalese-American singer, songwriter, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist who rose to become one of the most influential voices in 2000s R&B and pop. Splitting his childhood between Senegal and the United States, he grew up immersed in both West African traditions and American urban music, a blend that would later define his sound. He first broke through with his 2004 debut album Trouble, driven by standout singles like “Locked Up” and “Lonely.” These tracks fused R&B, hip-hop and international influences in a way that felt fresh and helped reshape what crossover pop could be in the mid-2000s.
Akon’s second album, Konvicted (2006), pushed him even further onto the global stage. Packed with hits such as “Smack That” (featuring Eminem) and “I Wanna Love You” (featuring Snoop Dogg), the record dominated radio and clubs around the world. Both singles climbed high on the Billboard Hot 100, earned Grammy nominations and solidified Akon as a reliable hitmaker with a distinctive melodic style and unmistakable voice.
Beyond his own chart-topping singles, Akon has been a driving force behind the scenes. He is known for his prolific collaborations with artists across genres and for founding influential labels like Konvict Muzik and KonLive. Through these imprints, he helped launch and shape the careers of major acts including Lady Gaga and T-Pain, cementing his reputation not just as a star performer but as a savvy tastemaker and executive.
Musically, Akon’s work cuts across R&B, hip-hop, pop and global music. His songs often combine smooth, melodic vocals with club-ready beats, drawing on his African heritage and his experiences in the U.S. to create a sound that feels both global and deeply personal. This fusion made his music resonate with audiences from Dakar to New York, London and beyond.
Outside of music, Akon has built a wide-ranging portfolio as a businessman and humanitarian. One of his most notable initiatives is Akon Lighting Africa, a project focused on bringing solar-powered electricity to underserved communities across the African continent. The initiative reflects his commitment to using his success and platform to address real-world issues and improve quality of life for millions of people.
On stage, Akon is known for his energetic, crowd-focused performances. His tours often blend his biggest hits with special guest appearances and extended moments of audience interaction, turning shows into lively celebrations rather than just concerts. With his enduring catalog, global perspective and ongoing ventures in music and philanthropy, he remains a significant and influential presence in contemporary R&B and pop.
For 2026, Akon is co-headlining the Nights Like This Tour with Ne-Yo, a global run celebrating both artists’ enormous catalogues in a single, dynamic show. From Akon’s Smack That, Lonely and I Wanna Love You to Ne-Yo’s signature hits, the tour blends smooth R&B, club anthems and sing-along favourites in a back-and-forth performance style designed to resonate with longtime fans and new listeners alike.
