About Judas Priest

Formed in 1969 in Birmingham, England, Judas Priest is more than just a band – they’re a force that has defined the sound, style, and attitude of heavy metal. Their dual-guitar assault, soaring opera-style vocals, and innovative use of leather and studs made them the archetypal metal band, inspiring countless musicians and fans around the globe.

While Judas Priest had already built a strong following and released several impactful albums, their definitive breakthrough, particularly in North America, arrived with ‘Screaming for Vengeance’ in 1982. This album, certified double-platinum in the US, featured the massive hit “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’,” which became a staple on rock radio and remains one of their most beloved songs. Prior to this, 1980’s ‘British Steel’ had already made significant waves, yielding anthems like “Breaking the Law” and “Living After Midnight,” which brought them wider commercial success in the UK and beyond.

Their arsenal of greatest hits is vast and ferocious: the high-octane “Painkiller” (1990), the iconic “Electric Eye” (often paired with “The Hellion” intro), “Freewheel Burning,” “Turbo Lover,” and the earlier classics like “Victim of Changes” and “Diamonds & Rust” (a powerful cover of Joan Baez). Their music is characterised by Rob Halford’s unparalleled vocal range, from piercing falsettos to menacing growls, underpinned by the intricate and powerful guitar interplay of Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing (later Richie Faulkner).

With their roots in the West Midlands, Judas Priest has a rich and varied history of touring the UK since their inception. From their early days playing clubs to regularly headlining major arenas and festival stages, they’ve maintained a formidable presence for over 50 years. Their touring history includes numerous legs of massive tours supporting albums like ‘British Steel’ (1980), ‘Screaming for Vengeance’ (1983’s World Vengeance Tour), ‘Painkiller’ (the early 90s), and more recently, the “Redeemer of Souls Tour” and “Firepower World Tour.” They’ve graced venues like the Hammersmith Odeon, Wembley Arena, and Manchester Apollo countless times, forging an unbreakable bond with their devoted British fanbase.

Looking ahead, Judas Priest will continue their strong UK presence in July 2025 with two highly anticipated shows: a headline performance at Scarborough Open Air Theatre on 23rd July and a co-headline slot with Alice Cooper at The O2 in London on 25th July. These dates, part of their “Shield of Pain” tour, also mark the 35th anniversary of their classic ‘Painkiller’ album.

Judas Priest’s relentless commitment to heavy metal, their consistent innovation, and their powerful live performances have cemented their legacy as true innovators and “Metal Gods” who continue to inspire generations of musicians.
