About Supergrass

Supergrass, the quintessential Britpop band, emerged from the vibrant music scene of Oxford in the early 1990s. Initially known as The Jennifers, the band underwent a name change and lineup adjustment, solidifying their identity as Supergrass. The core lineup consisted of Gaz Coombes on lead vocals and guitar, Mick Quinn on bass guitar and backing vocals, Danny Goffey on drums and percussion, and Rob Coombes on keyboards and backing vocals.

Supergrass burst onto the music scene with their debut album, “I Should Coco” (1995), which was a critical and commercial success. Hits like “Alright” and “Mansize Rooster” propelled them to fame, establishing them as one of the leading bands of the Britpop era. Their energetic live performances and infectious hooks further cemented their popularity.

Subsequent albums like “In It for the Money” (1997) and “Supergrass” (1999) continued to showcase their talent and creativity. Songs like “Moving,” “Pumping on Your Stereo,” and “Late Afternoon” became radio staples and music video favourites.

While Supergrass continued to release albums and tour throughout the 2000s, their commercial success began to wane. However, they maintained a dedicated fanbase and continued to produce quality music. Albums like “Life on Other Planets” (2002) and “Hangover Square” (2008) showcased their evolving sound and artistic maturity.

In 2010, the band announced their official disbandment. However, the band are now back together, with their original line-up, performing at festivals across the UK and beyond, with their 2025 tour celebrating the legacy of “I Should Coco”.

Supergrass has toured extensively throughout their career, performing at various festivals and venues worldwide. Their “I Should Coco” tour (1995-1996) supported their debut album and established them as a major force in the Britpop scene. The “In It for the Money” tour (1997-1998) promoted their second album. The “Supergrass” tour (1999-2000) supported their self-titled third album and included a successful North American leg. The “Life on Other Planets” tour (2002-2003) promoted their fourth album and featured performances at major festivals like Coachella. The “Diamond Hoo Ha” tour (2008) supported their sixth and final studio album. The “Supergrass 30th Anniversary Tour” (2025) will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album “I Should Coco” and will feature performances of the album in its entirety.
Supergrass’ impact on British rock music is undeniable. They are a significant part of the Britpop movement and influenced a generation of musicians. Their music continues to resonate with fans, and their legacy as one of the most talented and beloved bands of the 1990s remains intact.
