According to football stats aggregator Squawka, these ten players have made more ‘mistakes leading to goals’ than any other.
With the Premier League run in approaching, their clubs will hope they cut out these costly errors with Champions League and relegation places up for grabs.
Naturally, the list features predominantly goalkeepers, but there’s also spots for two unfortunate outfield stars!
10) Kolo Toure – Liverpool – 2 mistakes leading directly to goals
A horrendous own-goal and an awful back-pass led to opposition goals this term for the Reds, and Toure has been dropped for fit again Daniel Agger as a result.
9) Ben Foster – West Bromwich Albion – 2 mistakes leading directly to goals
The first of three England international keepers on the list (how worrying is that?), Foster’s been ever present in the Baggies’ goal this term. Unfortunately for him, both of his mistakes have led to goals.
8) Jonjo Shelvey – Swansea – 3 mistakes leading directly to goals
The second and last outfield player on the list, Shelvey had an absolute nightmare against his former club Liverpool earlier in the season, when he gifted them two goals with a shoddy back-pass and a mistimed dribble! (He did bag one himself, mind you.)
7) Hugo Lloris – Tottenham – 3 mistakes leading directly to goals
Lloris rushes off his line in the Spurs goal, which means when he misjudges it, it usually ends in a goal. This has proved to be the case this season, as all three of his mistakes that presented goalscoring opportunities have been converted.
6) Asmir Begovic – Stoke City – 3 mistakes leading directly to goals
Rated by many as the league’s best keeper, Begovic has actually made three costly mistakes for the Potters this term. Bizarrely though, he did manage to score once himself versus Southampton!
5) Joe Hart – Manchester City – 3 mistakes leading directly to goals
Hart’s mistakes during the first half of the season led to Manuel Pellegrini dropping him, and questions being asked about his place in the England side. Luckily for Hart, he’s put that behind him now, and is a certainty to start for Roy Hodgson in Brazil.
4) Artur Boruc – Southampton – 3 mistakes leading directly to goals
Most notably, the Polish stopper suffered a horrendous gaffe against Arsenal earlier in the season, but has actually been pretty good for the Saints.
3) Tim Krul – Newcastle United – 3 mistakes leading directly to goals
The Newcastle keeper hasn’t been at his best this term, and despite the occasional brilliant performance (Tottenham away for example) has been relatively inconsistent.
2) Simon Mignolet – Liverpool – 4 mistakes leading directly to goals
Worrying reading for Liverpool’s Belgian stopper… Mignolet made high profile mistakes against Manchester City and Chelsea over the new year period, which cost the Reds dearly in the title race. Since, they’ve been linked to Victor Valdes.
1) John Ruddy – Norwich – 4 mistakes leading directly to goals
Ruddy’s also made nine mistakes which led to goalscoring opportunities, which is by far the most in the league. He’s likely to head to the World Cup this summer with England, although his club manager Chris Hughton will demand he cuts the mistakes out of his game with the Canaries in a relegation dogfight.
