Considered one of the hottest prospects in Europe for several seasons now, Eriksen is now more likely to leave Ajax than ever before. The bad news for Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur fans is that the most probably destination is Milan.
Milan have entered the race for Eriksen so late as they were previously focusing their attention towards CSKA Moscow’s Japanese star Keisuke Honda. Now that the Honda deal looks dead in the water, Ajax is their next port of call.
One huge factor in Milan’s push for the Dane is that he is thought to prefer to move to a club that has Champions League football – something his current club and Milan can both offer, whilst Liverpool and Spurs cannot.
Liverpool have been chasing an attacking midfielder all summer, seeing deals for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Willian both fail to materialise.
Spurs, on the other hand, have been searching for a replacement for the outgoing Gareth Bale. Their intentions regarding Eriksen will largely depend on whether or not they can prise Eric Lamela away from AS Roma.
