The Circuit de Monaco is unlike any other track on the Formula 1 calendar. Its narrow streets, minimal run-off areas and near-impossible overtaking make where you sit almost as important as being there at all. Choose the wrong grandstand and you could spend the race watching a procession of cars from a restricted sightline. Choose the right one and you will be closer to a Formula 1 car — at higher speed — than almost anywhere else in the world. This guide breaks down every major grandstand at Monaco so you can make the right call before you buy your Monaco F1 tickets.

How Monaco Grandstands Differ From Every Other Circuit

At most Formula 1 circuits, grandstand choice comes down to personal preference — a high-speed corner here, a pit lane view there. At Monaco it is more consequential than that. Because the streets are so narrow and the circuit so enclosed, your grandstand determines not just what you see, but how much of the race you actually experience. Some grandstands offer a sightline of roughly 100 metres of track. Others give you a sweeping view across multiple corners and elevation changes. The gap in experience between the best and worst seats at Monaco is larger than at any other grand prix venue in the world.

There is also the qualifying factor. Monaco is the one grand prix where Saturday is arguably more exciting than Sunday. Overtaking during the race is so rare that grid position is almost always decisive — meaning qualifying laps, run with millimeter precision between the barriers, are where the real drama unfolds. The grandstand you choose should be one you would be happy to sit in for both days.

Grandstand Guide: Best Value for Money

Grandstand T — Tabac Corner

Tabac is consistently rated the best all-round grandstand at Monaco by experienced race-goers, and for good reason. It sits at a fast left-hand corner that cars take flat-out, placing you within metres of the action at genuine Formula 1 speed. During qualifying, the sound and proximity of cars on a flying lap is extraordinary. It also offers views extending back towards the Swimming Pool complex, giving you more track to watch than almost any other grandstand. If you can only book one grandstand at Monaco, this is the one.

Grandstand K — Casino Square

The most photographed grandstand backdrop in Formula 1. Casino Square is a slow-speed section of the circuit, so the pure racing spectacle is less intense than Tabac, but the atmosphere and setting are unmatched anywhere in the sport. The ornate Casino façade towers behind you, yachts fill the harbour in the distance and the cars navigate a tight right-hand bend that punishes the smallest error. For first-time visitors who want the quintessential Monaco experience, this is the grandstand that delivers it.

Grandstand B — Start/Finish Straight

The only grandstand with a direct view of the podium ceremony, Grandstand B sits on the pit straight and gives you lights-out drama, pit lane activity throughout the race and the full spectacle of race start. It is the natural choice for fans who want the complete ceremony of a grand prix weekend rather than the most intense corner action. It is also consistently the most expensive grandstand on the circuit.

Grandstand H — Nouvelle Chicane

If you want to see overtaking at Monaco — and it is rare enough to be genuinely special when it happens — this is where to sit. The Nouvelle Chicane at the exit of the tunnel is the one realistic passing point on the circuit, where cars brake hard from around 290 km/h after emerging from the darkness. Several of Monaco’s most memorable race moments have happened here. At a lower price point than Tabac or Casino, it also represents strong value for the racing fan.

Grandstand A — Harbour Chicane

A solid mid-tier option offering a wide view of the harbour chicane. It lacks the drama of Tabac and the glamour of Casino Square, but if your first choices are sold out, Grandstand A is a perfectly respectable alternative with decent sightlines and a good atmosphere.

Le Rocher — General Admission

The standing area on the hill above Sainte-Dévote is Monaco’s best-kept budget secret. A general admission pass gives you access to the elevated terrace with views across the opening section of the circuit and down towards the harbour. Arrive early, bring a picnic and claim your spot before the grandstands fill. It is a local favourite for a reason.

Exclusive Terracces
Fanatix is the exclusive reseller for four premium terrace experiences at the Monaco Grand Prix. These are not available through other resellers. Find these tickets on the Monaco F1 tickets page.

Panorama Terrace: A premium elevated viewing experience giving sweeping views over the circuit.
Steak N’ Shake Terrace: Watch the race in style from the Steak N’ Shake hospitality terrace.
Botticelli Terrace: One of Monaco’s sought-after terrace positions on the circuit.
Les Princes Terrace: An exclusive terrace experience in the heart of Monte-Carlo.

Which Grandstand Has the Most Overtaking?

Bluntly: none of them see much. Monaco averages fewer overtakes per race than any other circuit on the calendar, and in some editions the entire race passes without a single on-track pass for position. When overtaking does happen, it occurs almost exclusively at the Nouvelle Chicane (Grandstand H), where cars brake from high speed after exiting the tunnel. Sainte-Dévote at the start of the lap occasionally sees first-lap chaos, but there is no grandstand positioned there. If overtaking is your priority, Grandstand H is your answer — but manage your expectations regardless of where you sit.

Which Grandstand Is Best for Qualifying?

Tabac. On a qualifying lap, drivers attack Turn Tabac flat-out with the barriers just centimetres from the car. The speed, the sound and the precision involved make it the most visceral grandstand experience of the weekend. Casino Square also comes alive during qualifying, when the crowd reacts to each sector time split on the big screens. For the purest appreciation of what Formula 1 machinery can actually do, sit at Tabac on Saturday afternoon.

Grandstand Comparison at a Glance

Grandstand T (Tabac): Best overall choice. Fast corner, close action, extended sightlines. Premium price.

Grandstand B (Start/Finish): Best for race ceremony and podium views. Most expensive.
Grandstand H (Nouvelle Chicane): Best for overtaking chances. Good value.
