History of the Scottish Open

The Scottish Open is one of European golf’s most prestigious and beloved tournaments, held annually in the week immediately preceding The Open Championship. Played on some of Scotland’s most dramatic and celebrated links courses, the Scottish Open has established itself as a world-class event that attracts many of the game’s top players as they fine-tune their links golf ahead of the year’s final Major. Sanctioned by the DP World Tour and co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour, the tournament carries significant ranking points and prize money, ensuring a field that rivals many of the sport’s biggest events.

From the rugged coastlines of the Highlands to the historic fairways of East Lothian, the Scottish Open celebrates everything that makes links golf unique — unpredictable wind, firm fast fairways, and the raw natural beauty of the Scottish landscape. It is a tournament steeped in the spirit of the game’s origins, played in the country where golf was born.
