History of the PGA Championship

The PGA Championship is one of golf’s four Major Championships and the premier event of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. First played in 1916 at Siwanoy Country Club in New York, the PGA Championship has long been regarded as the Major that belongs to the professionals — a tournament where the world’s finest players compete for one of sport’s most coveted titles. Conducted annually each May, the championship rotates among some of America’s most celebrated and demanding golf courses, consistently producing leaderboards packed with the game’s elite and finishes that live long in the memory.

The Wanamaker Trophy — one of sport’s most recognisable and imposing prizes — has been lifted by the greatest names the game has ever seen. From Walter Hagen to Arnold Palmer, from Jack Nicklaus to Tiger Woods, and from Rory McIlroy to Brooks Koepka, the PGA Championship has defined greatness and shaped the history of professional golf.
