Gunners looking to bring in Hummels and Gotze.
Arsenal are finally ready to flex some financial muscle by bidding for Borussia Dortmund pair Mats Hummels and Mario Gotze, fanatix has learnt.
The North Londoners have now all but paid off the Emirates Stadium loans, and are ready to spend big to catapult themselves back up amongst the Premier League’s top clubs.
Boss Arsene Wenger has identified a list of potential targets, with Dortmund duo Hummels and Gotze priorities.
Hummels is now considered amongst the finest centre-backs in Europe and Wenger is keen to bring the uncompromising defender in to reinforce his leaky defence.
The German international was a crucial part of the Dortmund side that won the Bundesliga last season and topped this year’s Champions League group of death involving Real Madrid, Manchester City and Ajax, as well as being one of the stand out defenders at Euro 2012.
The ball playing centre-half is expected to cost in the region of £25 million.
Arsenal are also looking to acquire Hummels’ Borussia teammate Mario Gotze. The Gunners are long-term admirers of the baby-faced midfielder and reportedly made a £32 million bid for the player in 2011.
That was rejected, but reports are suggesting the player’s new contract includes a £30 million release-clause.
Gotze could make an instant impact on the Gunners’ side as he is considered amongst the best midfielders in Europe, despite his young age, and would liven up an Arsenal side lacking in real quality on the wings.
