Argentine receives incredible welcome after landing in Italy.
Napoli-bound striker Gonzalo Higuain has received an incredible greeting by supporters on his arrival at the Fiumicino airport in Rome.
The 25-year-old is reportedly undergoing medical tests this afternoon ahead of finalising minor details of a deal said to be worth around €40m with bonuses.
He is expected to sign a four-year deal worth €4.5m per season, and will join up with his new team-mates at the club’s Dimaro pre-season retreat this evening.
La Gazzetta dello Sport had reported earlier in the day that former Napoli star Ezequiel Lavezzi had spoken to his compatriot about the possibility of moving to Naples.
It is likely that “El Pocho” would have been describing scenes similar to that which greeted Higuain on his arrival in Italy, and what perhaps makes the video below even more remarkable is that it has taken place in Rome with Naples yet to come.
Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis had reassured supporters after the sale of Edinson Cavani that they would be competitive this season. With the double swoop of Higuain and goalkeeper Pepe Reina set to be announced later on Wednesday, the Partenopei will be itching to get the new campaign underway.
