Formula 1 is heading back to Istanbul Park as Turkey returns to the grand prix calendar in 2027 for the first time since 2021. The Turkish Grand Prix will be held at the iconic circuit until at least 2031, bringing back one of the most beloved and technically demanding tracks in the sport’s history. When the time is there you can get your Turkey F1 tickets here at Fanatix.
Istanbul Park holds a special place in Formula 1 folklore as the venue where Lewis Hamilton clinched his record-equalling seventh world championship title in 2020. Turkey first joined the calendar in 2005 and hosted grands prix until 2011, before returning for two seasons during the Covid-19 pandemic when F1 needed venues to fill a disrupted schedule.
What It Means for the Calendar
The return of Turkey will not push the Formula 1 calendar beyond its current 24-race limit. Instead, the Turkish Grand Prix will slot in as existing contracts expire or move to a rotational basis. The Belgian Grand Prix, for example, has recently signed a new deal under which it will host four races across six seasons between 2026 and 2031 — a model that hints at how F1 plans to manage an increasingly competitive field of host nations.
What They Said
Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the announcement, highlighting the sport’s popularity in the country and pointing to an audience of nearly 19 million people domestically, with around 7.5 million following closely on social media. He described Turkey’s return to the calendar as a reflection of confidence in the country’s organisational capacity and infrastructure.
F1 president Stefano Domenicali said the series was delighted to be returning to Istanbul, calling it “a cultural gateway between Europe and Asia” and praising Istanbul Park as one of the most exciting and challenging circuits in Formula 1.
