The Gunners want Kondogbia.

After a disappointing opening day defeat in the Premier League to Aston Villa, Arsenal have hit the transfer market hard and have submitted a bid for Sevilla’s Goeffrey Kondogbia.

The club are desperate to improve having only acquired France under-20 striker Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre on a free transfer, despite having £70m to spend on new talent.

Yet the Gunners are trying to make a move for Kondogbia, with the north London club struggling with injury in the centre of the park.

Mikel Arteta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both absent with long-term fitness problems, whilst Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky remain doubts for the Champions League qualifier against Fenerbahce on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old Kondogbia has impressed in Spain since making a £3.5m transfer from Lens 12 months ago, going onto impress for the club and also helping the French under-20 side to victory at the World Cup in Turkey.

The midfielder scored two goals at that tournament, despite being a defensively-minded player and played alongside Sanogo.

Kondogbia was a stalwart at Seville last term and played 31 La Liga matches in 2012/13, along with six more appearances in the Copa Del Rey and making a senior international debut for France.

The powerful midfield starlet would bring some grit and determination to a starting XI at the Emirates Stadium that is often criticised for lacking it.

New Manchester United manager David Moyes has also shown interest in signing Kondogbia this summer.
