WBA interim-welterweight champion Keith Thurman has insisted that he has the skill and talent to “dismantle” Amir Khan if they meet in the ring.
Thurman (24-0, 21KOs) secured a 12-round decision win over Leonard Bundu on the same night that Amir Khan defeated Devon Alexander in Las Vegas last month, and he is willing to face anyone in the division moving forward.
While he did try to call out Marcos Maidana after his win in December, he insists that he would love to face Khan and put an end to his hype as the Briton continues to pursue a bout with Floyd Mayweather.
However, Thurman believes that he has the tools to knock Khan out, much like Danny Garcia did against the Bolton-born fighter and he again downplayed his previous opponents.
“I think a lot of people underestimate my ability to box and punch at the same time. He’s a good boxer, but he gets caught. He tends to open up and throw wide. Punchers throw wide, but when we connect – that’s it. When he throws wide, we eat it. Skill-wise, I think I have all the skill and talent to dismantle Amir Khan in the same fashion or greater fashion than Danny Garcia,” Thurman told Boxing Scene.
‘One Time’ went on to talk down Khan’s previous wins in the welterweight division, stating that he has yet to really face a legitimate 147-pounder.
Nevertheless, Khan will likely brush off his comments as he continues to chase the big fights in the weight class, and Thurman will have to continue on his own path towards a world title.
