The forwards that will light up the division this season.
As much as the traditional striker is being phased out at clubs like Barcelona, in the Premier League a solid No.9 is still the biggest match winner.
Therefore fanatix takes a look at the best forwards currently plying their trade in the English top tier.
10. Edin Dzeko – Manchester City
Premier League record: 30 goals in 78 matches.
The Bosnian may be the forgotten man at the Etihad Stadium to a certain extent, but despite only starting half of the 27-year-old’s 32 appearances in 2012/13, Dzeko still bagged 14 league goals.
New City boss Manuel Pellegrini is a huge fan of the striker and that was seen by the prominent role the attacker played in the 4-0 win over Newcastle United on Monday.
9. Wilfried Bony – Swansea City
Premier League record: 1 goal in 1 match.
This is admittedly a big call considering the Ivorian is a new signing at the Liberty Stadium, but 31 Eredivisie goals in 30 matches last term shows that Bony has an eye for goal.
Although Swansea’s opening day 4-1 defeat to Manchester United was lacklustre, the 24-year-old looked sharp when taking the striker’s goal.
8. Christian Benteke – Aston Villa
Premier League record: 22 goals in 36 matches.
Benteke has been something of a revelation since joining Villa from Genk in the summer of 2012 and netting 19 Premier League goals in the 22-year-old’s first season.
The Belgian forced Darren Bent out of the side at Villa Park and has proved many doubters wrong that the forward was a ‘one season wonder’, by scoring three times in two matches this term against Arsenal and Chelsea.
7. Alvaro Negredo – Manchester City
Premier League record: 0 goals in 1 match.
The Spaniard is yet to get off the mark in England following a £22m move from Sevilla this summer on the back of a prolific campaign in Spain in 2012/13.
Negredo did have the ball in the net in City’s first match of the season against Newcastle, but was marginally ruled offside. Expect many goals to come though this year.
6. Dimitar Berbatov – Fulham
Premier League record: 90 goals in 211 matches.
Despite being 32-years-old Berbatov proved in the attacker’s first year at Craven Cottage that the Bulgarian can still cut it at the top with 15 league goals.
After a superb spell at Tottenham Hotspur the striker then struggled after becoming the Red Devils’ club record signing – although 48 Premier League strikes in 108 games is not a bad record.
5. Roberto Soldado – Tottenham Hotspur
Premier League record: 1 goal in 1 match.
Soldado is the third new signing on the list but has already got off the mark in 2013/14 and arrives with a superb reputation from Spain.
At 28-years-old the forward is supposedly in the former Valencia star’s prime and could be the 20-goal man that Spurs have wanted for so long.
4. Wayne Rooney – Manchester United
Premier League record: 156 goals in 346 matches.
Although Rooney may not be at Old Trafford for much longer, any side that has the England international in their team would receive a naturally gifted goal-scorer.
The 27-year-old holds the record of having scored more times under Sir Alex Ferguson than any other player and still realistically has five more years in top flight football.
3. Sergio Aguero – Manchester City
Premier League record: 36 goals in 65 matches.
The Argentine remains City’s club record signing and has proved his worth in goals over the past two seasons – the most important of which sealed the Citizen’s maiden Premier League title on the final day of the 2011/12 season.
Although Aguero was considered out of sorts last term, the 25-year-old has come back with a bang this season and netted in City’s 4-0 triumph over Newcastle on Monday.
2. Luis Suarez – Liverpool
Premier League record: 38 goals in 77 matches.
Suarez may cut a controversial figure at Anfield but there is no doubting the Uruguayan’s capabilities in front of goal and last season the 26-year-old bagged 23 league efforts.
Since a £23.5m move in January 2011 the South American has grown in confidence and talent and may have even outgrown a club not achieving Champions League football.
1. Robin Van Persie – Manchester United
Premier League record: 124 goals in 233 matches.
Van Persie is arguably one of the greatest strikers in world football and was named as the reason United won back the title last season after netting 26 Premier League goals.
At Arsenal the Dutchman developed into a lethal finisher and now at Old Trafford the 29-year-old is only seeming to get better and better, scoring two against Swansea on Saturday.
