De Jong faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
There is some bad news for Newcastle United as new signing Siem de Jong has injured his right thigh and is set to be out for a number of months, says the club’s official website.
The attacker only arrived at St James’ Park this summer from Ajax – where he was previously captain – and signing a six-year deal with the Magpies.
De Jong came through the ranks at the Amsterdam ArenA and broke into the first team back in December 2007.
The Netherlands international arrived at Newcastle with a strong reputation and his pre-season form suggested the 25-year-old was going to be a real hit.
This latest news will therefore come as a blow to manager Alan Pardew and his side.
