Cronulla captain Paul Gallen says unwanted Broncos utility Ben Barba would be an excellent fit at the Sharks, and confirmed the club was chasing the 2012 Dally M winner.
Speculation of Barba’s potential move to the Sharks intensified after Broncos coach Wayne Bennett confirmed the 25-year-old was not in his plans for 2015.
Gallen told Triple M radio that Sharks coach Shane Flanagan was definitely interested in signing Barba.
“To be honest I don’t know too much about it, I have been staying away from everything, but I spoke to ‘Flanno’ for the first time and he confirmed it,” Gallen said.
“Obviously we have a fair bit of money (available in the salary cap) with Toddy leaving and going overseas.
“He is a terrific player, we will just have to wait and see if the coach thinks he will fit the club.”
The Sharks began pre-season training on Monday under Flanagan, who returned from a ban relating to the club’s 2011 supplements program.
