Willian scored a brilliant free-kick as Chelsea began this season’s Champions League with a 2-1 defeat to Porto. And the Brazilian set-piece specialist almost replicated that stunning effort in Tuesday’s night’s trip to Dynamo Kiev.
Chelsea twice struck the woodwork as they were held to a 0-0 draw in the Ukraine. Eden Hazard rattled the post in the first half, before Willian did this shortly after the interval.
Despite being the better side for most of the match, Chelsea were forced to endure a tense final 10 minutes, as Kiev ended the contest on the front foot.
That tension would not have existed had the Blues taken one of their many earlier chances.
Chelsea registered 11 shots during the Champions League stalemate and they were also denied a strong penalty claim.
Luck just wasn’t on Chelsea’s side on the night, but a point keeps them in a firmly in with a chance of progressing from Group G, although they remain one point behind Kiev, who come to London in November.
