Richmond are confident they can re-sign star midfielder Trent Cotchin before he becomes eligible for free agency at the end of the 2015 season.
Cotchin, along with Adelaide duo Patrick Dangerfield and Taylor Walker, headlines a strong 2015 free agency crop that is likely to be targeted by some of the competition’s biggest clubs.
Richmond head of football Dan Richardson told AFL Trade Radio he fully understand why rival clubs would be interested in the 24-year-old, but was sure the elite midfielder would stay at the Tigers beyond 2015.
“Most players play to have success, and a club like Hawthorn naturally enough, as other clubs would have, would have interest in Cotch,” Richardson said.
“But by the same token we are really comfortable that he’s happy here.
“We feel we have a culture or are developing a culture and environment that ensures that players want to stay here.
“We haven’t received any indication from any of our players including Trent that they are interested in playing anywhere else but here and hopefully be part of the success we hope to have.”
Cotchin had an outstanding 2014 season, averaging 26 disposals a game.
