The 26-year-old is currently on loan with European champions Real Madrid, but he is struggling to make an impact at the Bernabeau and has so far made just one start for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
And although Real have an option to sign Hernandez at the end of his loan, it is understood there is little prospect of a permanent deal being arranged, with the Mexican international facing a return to United to see out the final year of his contract.
It is not believed that his future hinges on whether the club decide to complete a £43.2m deal for Radamel Falcao, and he will likely be moved on at the end of the season.
