3) Overplaying Mesut Ozil…
Football fans all over the country stood still when Arsenal made Mesut Ozil the Premier League’s most expensive ever import back on transfer deadline day in August. His £42m signing reinvigorated the team, even if it wasn’t always directly his involvement that caused wins to chalk up.
Ozil’s first few months though, were in the whole, a big success. But as the German superstar began to look tired (notice the recurring theme) Wenger continued to blindly play him for 90 minutes every match.
As a result, Ozil’s form dropped off, and he began to pick up niggling injuries. He hasn’t scored a league goal since early December, and the optimism his arrival created has melted away.
