N36 goals in two seasons with the Belgian Pro League have made Aleksandar Mitrovic a hot commodity. Will a surprise team land his signature?
Newcastle United have joined Chelsea and Tottenham in the race for Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle have entered talks with the Belgian Pro League club over the sale of the club’s leading goal scorer. Newcastle join a crowded field of interested parties that includes Chelsea, Tottenham, Roma, Porto and Real Sociedad. One Italian journalist reportedly said that Newcastle had already “agreed in principle” to terms with Mitrovic on a €16 million deal.
The 20-year-old Serbian international led the Belgian league in 2013-14 with 16 goals in his first year with Anderlecht and followed it up with 20 the following year.
Chronicle Live reported that Newcastle is willing to meet Anderlecht’s £12.9 million valuation – something that European clubs like Roma, Porto and Real Sociedad are not.
