Belgium has been one of the stars of the campaign.
Aston Villa are increasingly confident of keeping in-form front man Christian Benteke at Villa Park next season, says the Metro.
The Belgium international only arrived in the Midlands last summer, having signed from Genk for just £7 million as a virtual unknown.
However, in the intervening period the attacker has proved to be a huge success for Paul Lambert’s side, so much so that the player has since attracted the attentions of a whole host of ‘big-name’ clubs from across the Continent who are reportedly interested in landing the red-hot forward when the transfer window reopens for business on 1 June.
Benteke, 22, netted 19 goals in 34 top-flight matches, while in total the striker found the back of the net on 23 occasions in only 39 contests, goalscoring form that effectively kept the club in the Premier League this season.
And Lambert is confident Benteke will still be a Villa player next campaign: “We have been speaking for the last few weeks there so we will see what happens.
“I think it’s important we keep the nucleus of lads we have here and add to that. It’s not just about one individual. Christian, since the turn of the year, is only behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in goalscoring.”
