Former Test cricket star likes what he sees from the current side.
Former Australian cricket star Michael Hussey tips the form shown by the current Test side could them rise to be ranked the best side in the world again very soon.
Michael Clarke and his team stand on the threshold of reclaiming the Ashes after losing the past three series, with the home side needing just five wickets on the final day of play at the WACA to ensure a 3-0 series win.
After their poor showing in the English summer, many questioned if Australia would ever rise to through the ranks and be not just the best team in the world, but one that is again feared by opposing teams.
“Without doubt … if that’s what the team goal is, and certainly when I was playing that’s what Michael’s goal for the team was,” Hussey said.
“Knowing Michael and how determined he is, he won’t let anything stand in the way until he’s done that.”
Despite still working closely with Cricket Australia and having a better understanding than most of how the national team is faring, eve he was surprised with how quickly the current team has turned its form around.
“I’d have to say I’ve been … a little bit surprised at how emphatic it’s been,” he said.
“I knew the guys were really hungry and I knew they were hurting a lot from having a couple of series losses.
“So I expected to see that hunger and you can really see how hungry those guys are.
“But just how emphatic the victories have been has been a little bit surprising I guess.
“I know England is a great team and they’ve been a great team for quite a period of time.
“So for Australia to win and win so convincingly has been brilliant for the team and brilliant for their confidence moving forward.”
