Chicago fall in first game without Derrick Rose…
The Minnesota Timberwolves secured a win on Kevin Garnett’s return on Wednesday night, while the Portland Trail Blazers extended San Antonio’s losing streak to four games.
Garnett returned after eight years away from the city having spent his first 12 seasons in the league with the franchise. While he only had five points, eight rebounds and two blocks on the night, it was in a winning effort as the Timberwolves defeated the Washington Wizards.
“I’ve been back before and I never paid attention to how much love is here still for me because I’m too busy being focused on the game. And tonight it was just over the top,” Garnett said, ESPN reports.
“I did not know the city missed me like this. I don’t think that you can ever wish or ever think the city loves you like this. But to see it is reality and I’m very appreciative.”
Kevin Martin scored 28 points while Andrew Wiggins added 19 as the Wolves look as though they could have some success down the stretch of the regular season.
Elsewhere on a busy night in the NBA, there were wins for the Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns over the Spurs, Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets respectively.
The Miami Heat secured an overtime win over the Orlando Magic, while Evan Turner put up his first career triple-double in the Boston Celtics’ win over the New York Knicks.
There were also wins for the Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets and Milwaukee Bucks, but it was a disappointing night for the Chicago Bulls who were arguably still reeling from the injury to Derrick Rose.
The Bulls fell to a home loss to the Charlotte Hornets as they failed to get their offense going with Pau Gasol leading the charge with 25 points and 13 rebounds.
However, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist stepped up with a double-double of his own with 18 points and 12 rebounds and Chicago will need to find a way of snapping out of their shock in the coming nights.
