Ferdinand reveals the Dutchman’s thinking in his new book.
Former Manchester United centre back Rio Ferdinand has revealed that his former teammate Robin van Persie was taken aback by the difference in mentality between Arsenal and Manchester United, report the Metro, after he controversially made the move from North London to Old Trafford.
Van Persie had indicated that his move to the North West was out of a desire to win more trophies, with Ferdinand indicating that the Dutchman had sensed a real difference in mentality between the two clubs:
“Robin van Persie loved the winning mind state that Fergie had created, he told me that at Arsenal you wanted to win, but at United you had to win.”
Whilst van Persie’s move did initially pay off in terms of honours, with United lifting the Premier League in his first season, but the tables were turned last season as Arsenal lifted the FA Cup whilst United missed out altogether.
