Kallstrom reveals his feelings on becoming an unexpected Gunners star.
One of the most surprising deals of the January transfer window of 2014 was Arsenal’s loan signing of midfielder Kim Kallstrom from Spartak Moscow.
At 31-years-old and with a back injury that has kept the Sweden international out of his first six weeks of action in England, the move was seen by many as pointless.
Now Kallstrom – who is still yet to make his debut for the Gunners – has revealed that the switch to the Premier League was just as surprising to him as it was to everyone else.
“It was bewildering [joining Arsenal] to say the least,” the Swede told Sport Expressen.
“It went very quickly.
“It was surprising. It was nothing I had expected. Of course I was surprised.”
Kallstrom was on the bench during the 6-0 humiliation by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and could well feature for the north Londoners in the next week.
Having played for Olympique Lyon and Spartak and having 108 caps for Sweden to date, there is no doubting the midfielder’s experience at the top level, but whether or not he is the man to help guide Arsene Wenger’s side to their first piece of silverware in nearly nine years is unknown.
That defeat in west London effectively ruled the club out of a league title once again this term and having also been eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich, the FA Cup remains their only chance of silverware now.
