Mason Jr. texts confirmation that he is being traded.
The Sacramento Kings have reportedly agreed to acquire Roger Mason Jr. from the Miami Heat but are expected to waive him immediately.
According to ESPN, the Heat are to receive a highly protected Sacramento second-round pick to complete the swap for Mason, although it is highly unlikely that it will ever be conveyed.
Meanwhile, the Kings will receive cash only and no picks in the trade, with initial suggestions that he will be waived having already text confirmation of the news.
The Heat were said to be interested in having a roster spot open so they can add a free agent that may become available next week, as initial reports suggest that they are looking for a veteran wing player.
One name that has been continuously linked with a switch to the AA Arena is Caron Butler, with the Milwaukee Bucks still in the market ahead of the deadline on Thursday as Gary Neal is also expected to be involved a potential deal with the Charlotte Bobcats.
Meanwhile, Mason Jr. is now expected to become a free agent and there is no indication as to whether or not he will find a new team in the coming days.
The 33-year-old averaged 3.0 points in 25 games for the Heat this season, but as the defending champions continue to build up to the business end of the season, coach Erik Spoelstra is now in the process of making minor tweaks to his roster as they look further ahead to the playoffs.
