Wiggins joins Embiid and Parker in deciding against taking part…
Guard Andrew Wiggins is reportedly set to join two of the other top prospects in this year’s draft class in not participating in this week’s NBA draft combine.
According to ESPN sources, Wiggins will join center Joel Embiid and forward Jabari Parker in skipping the draft combine despite the trio being considered as the top three picks to be selected in the NBA Draft 2014.
Kentucky forward Julius Randle and Australian point guard Dante Exum, who are both being projected as high picks, are expected to attend the combine which will be held in Chicago on Thursday and Friday.
Last year’s No.1 pick Anthony Bennett, skipped the combine due to a shoulder injury, and while Embiid may well be considering his back which he re-injured recently, it is still somewhat of a surprise not to see Wiggins and Parker feature.
Nevertheless, the duo are expected to be high picks regardless having proven their ability at college level and both are being tipped as legitimate NBA superstars of the future.
While the draft process is still some time away, teams will undoubtedly be taking a closer look at the prospects coming out of college this year, with several of them looking to either continue or start a rebuilding period.
The Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers will be amongst the teams looking to have the luxury of deciding which of the top prospects to pick from, although there is no real certainty at this stage who could be the first overall pick.
