Love also reportedly being pursued by Celtics and Nuggets.
The Golden State Warriors are considering various deals which would give them the opportunity to negotiate with the Minnesota Timberwolves over Kevin Love.
According to ESPN sources, the Warriors are discussing internally whether or not they are prepared to part with some of their prized assets in order to sign the power forward, with Klay Thompson and David Lee amongst the names listed as potential bargaining chips.
The Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets are also reportedly monitoring Love’s situation closely, with reports last month that he had decided to leave the Timberwolves next year, which ultimately forces the franchise to consider trade deals now in order to avoid losing him for nothing.
It is understood that by making Thompson available to the Wolves in trade talks, Golden State have emerged as favourites to secure Love with new coach Steve Kerr looking to make his mark early in helping the organisation take the next step.
The Chicago Bulls had also been mentioned as an interested party, but it would appear as though that they are focusing their attention on signing Carmelo Anthony from the New York Knicks this summer as opposed to waiting until 2015 to see what becomes of Love’s future in free agency, if he gets that far.
Nevertheless, all the other teams could become a mere distraction on the basis of the latest speculation, with Thompson holding great appeal to Minnesota as Flip Saunders is said to be more interested in acquiring talent that will help immediately as opposed to gaining draft picks which will help them rebuild in the long-term.
Kevin Martin is also likely to depart in any potential deal, but it does appear as though Golden State would be sacrificing a significant amount if they have to give up Thompson, Lee and a draft pick.
