The Portuguese coach wants to sign Callejon.
Napoli forward Jose Callejon is a £26m transfer target for Chelsea with Jose Mourinho wanting to reunite with his former Real Madrid player, reports the Guardian.
The Spaniard spent two years in the first team at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu under the guidance of Mourinho between 2011 and 2013, before they both went their separate ways last summer.
Callejon moved to Italy where he has helped guide Napoli to another year in the Champions League and also to the Coppa Italia trophy.
This term the 27 year-old has played 51 matches in all competitions for the Serie A side and scored 19 goals – despite primarily playing from the right wing.
With the Blues having struggled for potency in attack this season Mourinho is keen to improve in the final third and there could well be an overhaul of the squad at Stamford Bridge.
All three of Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres have been linked with moves away and with the ability to play as a central striker or on the wings, Callejon could be the ideal replacement.
Yet at £26m critics would point out that the west Londoners could spend their money better than on a player that failed to truly establish himself at Madrid and has never earned a senior cap for Spain – admittedly up against extremely strong competition.
