The Miami Heat face the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night knowing that they must win on the road in Game 5 to have a chance of retaining their crown.
The Spurs are now one win away from winning a fifth NBA championship, and they will have their first opportunity at home as they look to become the 32nd team in league history to convert a 3-1 Finals lead into a title.
Having taken command of the Finals with two comprehensive road wins in Games 3 and 4, the focus has been on completing the job as opposed to celebrating what they have achieved thus far, as ultimately San Antonio will still remember what happened last year.
Spurs star Tim Duncan has warned his team-mates to be prepared for their rivals to come with added motivation and that their championship resolve will ensure that they will not give up their crown without a fight.
However, that doesn’t consider the fact that the Spurs have looked like an unstoppable machine at times this post-season, and with their ball movement and offensive execution seemingly showing up a fatigued Heat roster, it would appear to be a mere formality that they will close out the series.
Nevertheless, having had a couple of days off to rest their minds and legs, the Heat will know that if they can somehow manage to find a road win and take the series back home with an opportunity to level, then those nerves from last year could come back and play a significant role.
San Antonio have insisted that this is where they wanted to be, and it will be up to them to now exercise those demons and finish the job.
