Manchester United have earmarked Juventus’ superb Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal as a potential transfer target either this January or next summer, reports the Daily Mirror.
Vidal is now recognised as one of the best central midfielders in the world after winning back to back Serie A titles with Juventus, since arriving at the club from the Bundesliga in 2011. This term, the 26-year-old has bagged 12 in all competitions, which is especially impressive for a player as effective defensively as he is going forward.
Following United’s defeat on New Year’s Day to Tottenham, David Moyes’ side sit seventh in the table, eleven points behind the leaders, and fans are crying out for exciting new signings.
Central midfielder Marouane Fellaini arrived for £27m in the summer from Moyes’ former club Everton, but has so far failed to justify his hefty price tag. With Ryan Giggs in his forties, and question marks over the long term suitability of Tom Cleverley and Anderson, Moyes believes world class midfield reinforcements should be United’s priority.
Due to his excellent form however, United recognise they will have to pay an astronomical transfer fee to secure their man.
