Manchester United and Liverpool both want to sign Bayern Munich’s German international centre-half Jerome Boateng, reports the Express.
The 25-year-old has already played Premier League football, spending a year with Manchester City, before leaving to join the Bundesliga giants after failing to impress in England.
He’s now more experienced and a far better player, and is expected to start for the world’s best club side tomorrow evening against united in the Champions League at Old Trafford.
United desperately need a new centre-half, with Nemanja Vidic joining Inter Milan, Rio Ferdinand potentially returning, and long-term doubts raised over the suitability of Chris Smalling.
Liverpool are stronger in the position, with £18m summer signing Mamadou Sakho currently struggling to get into the side behind Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel – and Kolo Toure providing a backup option.
Boateng is happy at Bayern though, and has a contract with the recently crowned German champions until 2018.
As a result, it seems unlikely that Pep Guardiola would want to sell him, and perhaps just as unlikely that the defender would want to leave anyway.
