United will turn to Barcelona again to bolster their midfield.
New Manchester United manager David Moyes is desperate to add some Spanish guile to his midfield, and will turn to Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas after missing out on Thiago to Bayern Munich, according to The Independent.
After months of speculation, Bayern Munich won the race to sign 22-year-old playmaker Thiago last night, leaving fans of United bitterly disappointed.
They could turn their attentions to Cesc Fabregas however, who is still only 26-years-old, and enjoyed eight fantastic years in the Premier League for Arsenal. The player made over 300 appearances for the Gunners during his stint in England, and assisted a whopping 100 goals.
His acquisition would be a fantastic signing for United, and would signal the intent of the new manager. With Paul Scholes’ retirement, Darren Fletcher’s uncertain future, and Ryan Giggs’ advancing years, signing a top class midfielder is an absolute priority during Moyes’ first summer in charge.
Fabregas’ creative flair and wonderful technical ability would see him walk straight into any midfield in the Premier League. His signing could tilt the balance of the Premier League title in favour of United, although rivals Manchester City are close to big money deals to sign Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic.
After just offloading Thiago to Germany however, it is highly unlikely that Barcelona will let another star midfielder leave in the same transfer window. With Xavi’s advancing years, the Barcelona hierarchy would be unlikely to scupper the midfield triumvirate of Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas that could represent the club for the foreseeable future.
With Neymar, Messi and Pedro playing ahead of this potential midfield, fans of the Catalan club are understandably excited for the new season to begin. They are still after a top class centre-back though, after reportedly failing to sign Thiago Silva from PSG.
