The Red Devils want to beat Arsenal to the signing of £37m-rated youngster Draxler, with Louis van Gaal ready to continue his policy of bringing in expensive attacking players.
Draxler could join the likes of Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao in a highly exciting new-look attack for United, while his Schalke team-mate Howedes is also a top priority target.
United need to strengthen at the back and Howedes can fill in a number of roles at either right-back, left-back or centre-back in what could make a smart signing by van Gaal.
