Manchester United have been consistently linked with a move for German midfielder Toni Kroos since last summer, but it would appear that their chase may come up cold as Real Madrid have entered the race for the Bayern Munich creator.
The Daily Express are reporting that Carlo Ancelotti is willing to offer anchorman Sami Khedira in exchange for Kroos, a deal that may tempt Bayern considering that it was defensive frailties which saw them dumped out of the Champions League at the hands of Real.
The report also claims that Real are willing to pay up to £35 million in cash for Kroos, but a small fee with Khedira as a makeweight is seen as the ideal solution by those in the Bernabeu’s corridors of power.
Despite impressing on the pitch, Kroos hasn’t endeared himself to the Bayern Munich hierarchy with his significant wage demands, which the club have as of yet been unwilling to match.
The opportunity to let Kroos go whilst pocketing both a significant fee and a player who would slot in alongside Javi Martinez infront of the Bayern defence is one that may tempt the German club into action.
United had been believed to be chasing Kroos under the management of David Moyes, before returning to the German with Louis van Gaal now installed as boss – although it is suggested that the midfielder didn’t receive sufficient encouragement from van Gaal to demand a move to Old Trafford.
