Red Devils to make final offer for long-term target.
Manchester United are preparing to make a take-it-or-leave-it bid for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, according to The Metro.
The 25-year-old has been linked with interest from United in each of the past three transfer windows.
United’s need for a new centre-back is greater now than it has been in previous windows though.
Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, who between them made 751 first-team appearances for the Red Devils, have recently left Old Trafford on free transfers.
Hummels would add experience to United’s backline.
He has been capped 33 times by Germany at senior international level and has won two Bundesliga titles during six years at Westfalenstadion.
Hummels has attracted interest from La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid in the past.
United are poised to offer £20m for Hummels and are likely to end their pursuit of him if Dortmund reject the bid.
The 20-time champions of England could then switch their attention to Feyenoord’s Stefan de Vrij and Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen, who have also been linked with summer moves to Old Trafford.
