Manchester United are pursuing Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, and could sign him this summer ahead of long term admirers Chelsea, reports the Mirror.
The 18-year-old won his first England cap this month, and is widely regarded as one of the most talented youngsters of his generation, having already nailed down a regular starting spot on the left of Southampton’s back four.
He’s exceptionally strong for someone so young, but is also technically accomplished, meaning he’s very composed with the ball at his feet.
United want a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra, whose contract expires in the summer. Shaw is a Chelsea fan, but the Red Devils are prepared to steal a march on their rivals, and make a move for the teenager as soon as possible.
United are apparently preparing a £27m bid for Shaw, and are prepared to pay him £85,000 per week, which would make him one of the world’s highest paid teenagers.
Chelsea currently deploy Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back, but Ashley Cole is set to leave this summer when his contract expires, meaning the Blues need to strengthen the area.
