Mata is confident that a poor domestic campaign won’t deter top-class stars.
It’s been a difficult first season for David Moyes as manager of Manchester United, but club record signing Juan Mata says that won’t stop them signing world-class players.
Mata arrived at Old Trafford in the January transfer window for a £37.1m fee, but has failed to guide the Premier League champions to any higher in the English top tier than seventh.
After 26 matches the Red Devils are 11 points off fourth-placed Liverpool and face a very realistic chance of missing on Champions League football for next term.
However, Mata says this lack of top European football won’t stop United signing the best players in the world in the summer.
“I don’t know what will happen in the summer but the manager said the other day at a press conference that he’s going to be signing players,” the Spain international was quoted by the Daily Mail.
“I think this club is at a stage of change, but I can tell you that the best players in the world will always arrive.
“This is Manchester United. When this club wins two, three or four matches in a row, it has a very important mental strength, a winner’s mentality. We are coming and I think we can do it, but we have to win a lot of games first.
“The mentality of this club is to win and fight for all the trophies. Unfortunately this year, things haven’t gone so well in the league, but I believe there is still time this season.”
