An 89th-minute own goal got Manchester United out of jail against Watford this lunchtime as the Red Devils went top of the Premier League table courtesy of a 2-1 victory at Vicarage Road.
Bastian Schweinsteiger thought that he was the saviour with his fist goal for United, but replays show that it was actually unfortunate Watford captain Troy Deeney who put the ball into his own net.
Only two minutes earlier, Deeney appeared to have snatched the Hornets a hard-fought point from the penalty spot after Marcos Rojo had needlessly brought down Odion Ighalo inside the box.
United had led for 76 minutes following a fantastic early volley from the returning Memphis Depay, who was restored as a central striker in the absence of Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial.

The three points take Louis van Gaal’s side to the Premier League summit, although they will quickly be knocked off their perch if either Manchester City or Arsenal avoid defeat later today.
