Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure could be staying in the Premier League beyond the summer, despite the suggestions from his agent that he intends to leave the Etihad, as Chelsea have emerged as the surprise candidates interested in his signature.
According to the Sunday Express, the 32-year-old’s agent Dimitri Seluk revealed that he is 90% sure that his client will be leaving at the end of the season, after five years at Eastlands.
And despite his service – which has reaped two league titles among other trophies – his side seem willing to let him go also, as long as they recoup £10m of the £24m they spent on the Ivorian when he joined from Barcelona in 2010.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho is a reported admirer of Toure, and believes that he still has the ability to play at the sharp end of the top flight. The price is unlikely to pose much a problem for the newly-crowned Premier League champions, and could represent a shrewd investment, should he be able to display the quality that made him one of the Premier League’s best midfielders of the past few years.
