Liverpool are lining up a move for Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony, according to the Mirror, but will have to pay the player’s £19 million release clause if they are to lure him away from the South Wales club.
Bony has only been at Swansea for a year, having joined from Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem, but enjoyed a fine first season in the Premier League as his pace and power allowed him to quickly adapt to life in England.
Liverpool are set to have a huge fee from Luis Suarez’s potential move to Barcelona burning a hole in their pockets, but spending some of it on Bony may represent a change of approach – with the Ivorian more of a target man than the slippery, shadowy figure that Suarez is on the football pitch.
He would partner Daniel Sturridge in attack, with Bony’s signing also likely to mean that Brendan Rodgers is considering sticking with the two upfront system that worked so well for the Anfield club last season.
Swansea are believed to be unwilling to entertaining offers below Bony’s £19m release clause, which is only around £7m more than they paid Vitesse for his services, with the Swans believing that such a fine first season in the Premier League should’ve increased the powerful striker’s value significantly.
