Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has earmarked a potential summer deal for classy midfielder Ander Herrera, reports Football Direct News.
The 24-year-old currently plies his trade for Athletic Bilbao in La Liga, and was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in the closing stages of last summer’s transfer window.
A ‘committee’, representing United, couldn’t conclude a deal for the player who has yet to win a cap for the Spanish national team.
Herrera contributes defensively, enjoys tackling, and loves to dribble with the ball through the centre of the park – in very unSpanish style.
His club however are apparently demanding a cool £31m for his services, which would make him Liverpool’s second highest ever transfer (behind Andy Carroll for £35m) and Rodgers’ biggest signing by a considerable distance.
For a player yet to win an international cap, this seems pretty steep – so the Reds might only be able to conclude a deal if they can lower the asking price.
