Brendan Rodgers wants Burnley’s Danny Ings to cover for his injured hitman…
Brendan Rodgers has earmarked Championship striker Danny Ings as a realistic January option following the injury to Daniel Sturridge, reports the Mirror.
Sturridge, the 23-year-old England forward who has bagged nine league goals already this term, picked up a nasty injury in the run up to the weekend defeat to Hull, and will be out until February.
As a result, Rodgers has only Iago Aspas to support Luis Suarez in attack, and the Spanish summer signing has hardly filled fans with confidence since his arrivals.
Ings on the other hand, has been excellent all season for Burnley, scoring an impressive 15 goals in all competitions. His form also earned him a call up to Gareth Southgate’s England Under-21 side, where the striker has delivered two goals in his first two matches (although both were against a hapless San Marino side).
Liverpool fans will no doubt be hoping their side sign a more experienced, well established name to boost their top four credentials. While Ings could well be one for the future, it’s unlikely he will be able to come in immediately and help the Reds compete with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City among others for a spot in the top four.
