Liverpool may make £10 million bid for Sporting Lisbon flyer.
Liverpool have been linked with a £10 million summer transfer move for Sporting Club de Portugal’s winger Diego Capel by the Daily Mirror.
The 25 year-old Spain international, who has two caps but has struggled to retain his place in national fold, and the Mirror claim that he is set to move on from Sporting Lisbon at the end of the season.
Capel is a tricky winger with the passing aptitude and technical attributes expected of a player who was trained at FC Barcelona’s famed youth academy of La Masia.
He has offered flair and creativity to any team he has played for, and has a fine delivery either from set pieces or when crossing in open play.
The downside is that he is somewhat of a luxury player, who arguably shirks some of the defensive duties perhaps expected from the modern winger, and he can often be caught waiting for the ball to come to him after an opposition attack.
If Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants to emulate the high pressing football so well implemented by the likes of Barca and Borussia Dortmund, his forward players will require a high work rate.
However, the reported price tag of £10m is not a huge price to pay for a player who makes things happen with the ball at his feet.
