Reds to use around a third of the money from their Suarez sale on Stamford Bridge starlet.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is in advanced talks with Chelsea regarding a potential swoop for Belgian frontman Romelu Lukaku, according to CaughtOffside.
Rodgers is on the lookout for a replacement for Luis Suarez, who is set to join Barcelona in the coming days.
Liverpool will rake in £75m from the Suarez sale and Rodgers is willing to use more than a third of that figure to bring Lukaku to Anfield.
The Reds apparently tabled an opening offer of £26m for the 21-year-old, who scored 15 goals in 31 Premier League games during a loan spell at Everton last season.
Rodgers believes that Lukaku can help to fill the void left by Suarez’s departure, while also adhering to his youthful transfer policy.
The Northern Irish boss previously worked under Mourinho at Chelsea and he hopes to use his positive relationship with the Special One to Liverpool’s advantage.
Lukaku has made just 15 first-team appearances for Chelsea since signing for the Blues from Anderlecht for £18m in August 2011.
He has yet to score for the Stamford Bridge club, but he has netted 33 goals in the last two seasons, while on loan at West Bromwich Albion and then Everton.
