Could the legendary Spanish midfielder make a romantic return to Anfield…?
Liverpool and Juventus could step up their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso, who has decided not to renew his contract, reports Spanish publication Cadena Ser.

The 32-year-old starred for Liverpool between 2004 and 2009, winning both a Champions League and an FA Cup, and fans of the table topping club would be delighted to have the midfield metronome back at Anfield.
With Steven Gerrard currently injured, Liverpool could badly do with midfield reinforcements. Although Joe Allen, Lucas and Jordan Henderson are playing well, there is now nobody on the bench should one of the trio pick up an injury.
Alonso would add some guile and fluidity to the Liverpool side, and is definitely the kind of player who would fit right into Brendan Rodgers’ footballing ethos.
