Blues legend could now finish his career in London.
Chelsea are set to perform a dramatic U-turn and offer veteran midfield player Frank Lampard a new one-year deal to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of this season, reports the Daily Mirror.
The England international, 34, had been expected to end his illustrious 12-year career in west London when the Blues take on Everton in their final Premier League match of this campaign at the Bridge on May 19.
The Uefa Champions League holders have a strict policy of not offering players in their thirties long-term deals, although they recently made an exception to that rule in offering defender Ashley Cole a new contract.
And now it appears that Chelsea will also relent with Lampard too in order to allow the player to see out the rest of his career in the capital.
Lampard now needs just one more strike to equal Bobby Tambling’s club record of 202 career goals for Chelsea.
