Arsenal man wanted by Turin giants as Jovetic deal drags on.
Juventus are considering a move for Arsenal centre back Thomas Vermaelen, according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport.
The Gunners club captain has lost his place in the starting line-up at Emirates Stadium, and with the partnership of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker looking stronger and stronger as the season progressed, Vermaelen and the club may both agree it is in the interests of each if they part ways.
The transfer business of Juventus and Arsenal has appeared to have been closely linked all summer.
Not only are the two clubs interested in the same players – Stevan Jovetic and Gonzalo Higuain to name but two – but now Juventus are reportedly trying to buy the Gunners’ players.
However, any deal for Vermaelen could add a layer of intrigue to any deal for Jovetic.
Juventus’ bid for the Montenegrin includes two players, reports Gazzetta dello Sport: central defender Luca Marrone and striker Fabio Quagliarella.
If Juve manage to buy Thomas Vermaelen, it would be interesting to discover if it helps or hinders either Arsenal’s or their own bid for Jovetic, for it could either free up funds for the Gunners or merely function as an additional purchase for the Turin giants.
This dilemma will certainly cross Arsene Wenger’s mind should an offer come from Juventus for his captain.
